Medical Rehabilitation & Kinematics Lab, Inc.
Medical Rehabilitation & Kinematics Lab, inc. was a dream of its founders Dr. Brad Marcus and Hank Marcus that has finally come to life. For too long, patients who have disabilities have "been used up" by an overpriced system that lacks innovation, licensed physician and physical therapy access, affordability and results. We are unique. We welcome you to explore this difference and how it will elevate your performance and quality of life. As of January 1, 2012 Medical Rehabilitation and Kinematics Lab, Inc. will be branching off the non for profit VIP NeuroRehabilitaton Center. This will enable us to treat more in the community and to have more research opportunities. Please visit www.VIPNeuroRehab.com for more exciting details.

What is Neuroplasticity ?
Neuroplasticity refers to the brain being able to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. It is intimately involved with the environment in which the person is immersed. Does neuroplasticity really exist? YES. It is how we form memories, learn new skills and recover from neurological damage. Research studies are beginning to demonstrate in Cerebral Palsy, Stroke and Brain Injury that with the right rehabilitation environment dramatic changes can occur.
What do you mean by the “right” rehabilitation environment?
Not every person looks and acts alike. Not every injury has the same effects and responses to treatment. Cookie cutter style therapies works for making cookies but not for making people perform better. Each and every rehabilitation plan must incorporate the individuality of the patient, their needs and their goals. It must be of optimal duration, intensity, specificity and involve a logical sequence of movement based therapies. It should whenever possible emphasize the active over the passive. Therapies should have objective and quantitative measures of performance during therapy to give the patient’s nervous system the information it needs to adapt to its new challenges. Objective measures are also helpful to help clinicians plot progress, identify weaknesses, and plan new courses of action.
How do you accomplish the “right” environment for me or my loved one?
1) Licensed professionals are involved in every planning and therapy stage. The staff is comprised of a board certified medical physician in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation who works with a physical therapist and rehabilitation aides to give you quality custom care.
2) All sessions are 90 minutes or more. This allows time for you to absorb what you are trying to learn. They are fun and involve virtual reality games, universal exercise cage, robotic upper and lower extremity therapies, giger md machines, computerized biofeedback exercise machines, full motion analysis/gait laboratory, adaptive suit therapy, rock climbing and more… For more information, see the capabilities section of www.MRKLab.com
How do you feel about the recent advances in stem cell therapy?
It is very exciting to see the progress that is being made in stem cell therapy. We are at least 3 to 5 years away from many new therapies getting FDA approval. In the meantime, it is important to make sure that your overall health is placed in the best possible situation so that if new medical treatments prove to be effective YOU will be ready. If you do nothing, there is a chance that your system may be too weak, atrophied and/or contracted to make these treatments as effective as they might be.
The finest resources in the world are now available in San Diego at the Medical Rehabilitation & Kinematics Lab, Inc. We are here and ready to help. For more information go to www.MRKLab.com
