All therapies involve multiple modalities, techniques and licensed professional supervision. Below are examples of technological capabilities that make our facility unique. We have many tools that are being developed and tested that are not listed. Dr. Marcus is currently working with many companies on product development.
Patient "Izzy" after several months at our Medical Rehabilitation and Kinematics Lab with advanced physical therapy integration utilizing Lokomat pro, Giger Md, Rock Climbing, adaptive clothing and many other techniques. Patient progressing from rear walker to rear walker with theratogs, lofstrand crutches with theratogs, lofstrand crutches no theratogs, single cane with P.T. manual trunk support and hand on cues. Single quad cane with minimal cues not trunk support. LATEST: single lofstrand cane with no cues and no trunk support!!
Patient "Parker" before and after 2 weeks of integrated daily therapy. Note how much better his knees bend, less leg dragging out to the side, and how the circumducted gait pattern has almost completly been corrected. 1st week with lofstrand crutches! Now able to walk greater than 10 feet without sticks...
Lokomat PRO with Adult and Pediatric Legs & Augmented Feedback
There are only 7 facilities in the country with Pediatric legs. We are one of only 3 facilities in the United States with augmented feedback. The Lokomat Pro with augmented feedback (do not confuse with Basic model) enables and adjusts for patient effort in real time. In addition, you are able to work on strength, timing, and coordination in your video walking simulator.
We have GIGER MD machines with Biofeedback for sizes approximately age 3 through Adult.
-Below is a video demonstrating how the Giger works.Only the Basic model is seen in the video. Ours has additional capability for cognitive/speech therapy. There are none of these devices with biofeedback to my knowledge in California. We have seen great progress in all of our patients (parkinson's, stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy) and across all age groups.

We have both left and right MYOMO E100 ROBOTIC braces that fit all ranges from pediatric patients to adults. We are the only clinic to have this in the western United States. We will be using this with stroke and spinal cord injury as well as many other disabilities. Below is a video describing the practical applications of the Robotic brace for rehabilitation.
Patient with traumatic brain injury over 2 years ago is begining to gain strength and range of motion in his arm. Time period is almost 6 weeks. "Before" sequence is with him standing and the "After" is with him sitting. This will be updated periodically.
We have Universal Exercise Cages (SPIDER CAGES). Perfect for adding support and giving feedback as well as providing a lot fun. Our cages are custom built and big enough for ADULTS and PEDIATRICS. We also combinge them with virtual reality gaming. See 2nd video below of IREX system.
We have Virtual Reality Gaming by IREX with real time kinematics. Therapists or parents have the option to put on a green suit so they can assist and not be seen on the screen
The Most Advanced Exercise Machines
We are one of the first in the world with the latest generation Ariel Computerized Exercise Machine (ACES). Older models of this machine are found frequently at olympic training centers throughout the world. They have been used by NASA. ACES possesses several unique advances over other resistive exercise mechanisms. The most significant of these advances is the introduction of a stored program computer which monitors and selects the amount of force, velocity, acceleration, work, power and fatigue assignment. These selections are made based on continuous simultaneous measurements from the human performance and adapted in real time.
The computer and its associated collection of unique programs allows the feedback controlled resistance to vary not only with the measured parameters of force velocity and displacement, but additionally, to modify that feedback loop while the exercise is in progress. This modification can, therefore, reflect changes in the pattern of exercise over time. The unique program selection can effect such changes in order to achieve a sequential or patterned progression of resistance for the optimum training effect. The advantage of this capability over previous systems is that the user can select the overall pattern of exercise and the system assumes responsibility for choosing the precise force level, speed of movement, and temporal sequence to achieve that pattern. Hence, this is the first 5th generation computer system where, in addition to assigning a constant program, the computer has the intellectual capabilities to adjust and modify its assignment to achieve excellence.
The revolutionary ACES can be used to measure and record joint and associated muscle capabilities; diagnose and rehabilitate muscle and joint injuries with out risk of re-injury; evaluate the results of prescribed treatment; assist in the prevention of injury by indicating the effects of certain physical stress; provide conditioning, reconditioning, and strength training.
The state-of-the-art computer displays in real-time graphic analysis of any dynamic movement under the exercise condition on the monitor. Graphs correspond to each independently programmable system action. We have both the Universal and the Arm/Leg machine.

We have 1 of only 3 C-Mill Treadmills in the world. This fully instrumented and computerized 10 foot long treadmill enables a clinician to diagnose and treat gait disorders in real time. This involves the truly unique capability to manipulate visual and auditory feedback with each step. As the target squares are properly hit they turn green. Missed targets do not change color and make an approriate buzzing noise. Objects are also presented at the clinician's discretion for the patient to have to step over. Of course, audio and visual feedback is provided and all session's objective gait parameters can be recorded. Real time Center of Pressure measurements help assess early fatigue and weight bearing changes to modifications of gait.
We are one of the few centers in the West Coast to utilize Medigait virtual reality optical and auditory system. This will be used in conjunction with our extensive track and harness system to allow for overground training without the risk of falling.
-This will be used for many types of disabilities.

Robotic Wrist
Researchers have found that intense, interactive movement therapy can improve function in the upper extremity of stroke and other brain injury survivors. The Hand Mentor™ provides an interactive training environment and encourages the patient to improve their hand function with KMI's Active Repetitive Motion™ therapy programs.
Initial clinical trial results have been published in the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy journals.

Robotic Ankle
The Foot Mentor™
The second device released by KMI is the Foot Mentor Pro™. Using the same Mentor Pro™ computer controller, and therapy programs very similar to the Hand Mentor Pro™, the Foot Mentor™ is designed to repetitively train foot and ankle control. By creating an interactive, game-like environment, it is easy to engage a patient to perform more repetitions of quality movement therapy.

Therapeutic Indoor Rock Climbing
Rock Climbing is proving to be an Awesome therapeutic tool that develops motor planning, strength, coordination and flexibility. It also builds confidence and is fun. Our wall is over 18 feet high. With 4 safety ropes and different climbing routes we can assist all levels of ability.
Advanced Electrical Stimulation with surface EMG feedback
Benefits of Biofeedback Training
By providing the patient, and their therapist, access to muscular information about which they are both generally unaware, biofeedback provides accurate, reliable, measurable, objective data to augment and support the subjective reporting of the patient and observations of the therapist.
Audio Visuals Can Make A World of Difference
Comprehensive use of animations and sounds provide relevant rehabilitation goals and activities to keep patients motivated and informed at the highest level.

ADAPTIVE THERAPEUTIC CLOTHING
We have the complete clothing collection for use in our facility and on a trial basis for Pediatrics and Adults
Impulse Power Trainer
This is a new and improved way of increasing physical performance based on simple physics. It's gravity free and doesn't incorporate elastic or frictional resistance. Its dynamic resistance is pure inertia. The patient is free to learn how to deal exclusively with the resistance of inertia and the acceleration and deceleration components associated with it. This means learning control on the motor programming and neuromuscular level.
